FAQ: Monoprint Intensive — 2 Hours
What is this workshop about?
This 2-hour intensive is designed for two people — perfect for friends or couples. You’ll explore the expressive world of monoprinting, working with trace monotype techniques using an image of your choice, along with painterly and subtractive methods that highlight mark-making, texture, and negative space.
Do we need experience?
No experience is required. This session is ideal for complete beginners or for anyone wanting to refresh their creative approach and experiment with new ways of making prints.
What will we learn?
You’ll both learn how to:
Create a trace monotype by transferring a drawing onto inked paper, producing rich lines and textures
Use a painterly method, applying ink in expressive, brush-like strokes
Experiment with a subtractive method, wiping away ink to reveal highlights and negative space
Together, these techniques will give you the tools to create bold, one-of-a-kind prints.
What materials are provided?
All inks, rollers, paper, and printing plates are included. Just bring an apron or old shirt — and an image you’d like to work from.
How much does it cost?
Workshop for Two (friends or couples): $200 total
Where is it held?
At my studio in the Toi Pōneke Arts Centre, 61/69 Abel Smith Street, Te Aro, Wellington.
Will we take something home?
Yes — you’ll both leave with a series of unique monoprints created using painterly, trace, and subtractive techniques.
